First Steps To Music is an independent music class for babies, toddlers and pre-school aged children and their parents/carers in Glasgow's West End run by Katie Dick, a mum and a professional andhighly experienced early years musician. Katie set up her classes with the aim of providing exciting, fun and high quality musical activities that the whole family can enjoy together!

I began my own piano lessons at the age of 7! Having gained all my piano grades (both practical and theory), a degree and a teaching diploma, I have been teaching piano, keyboard and theory privatelysince 1980. During my teaching career, I have also enjoyed performing both as soloist and accompanist to singers and choirs. I am committed to Continuous Professional Development, and regularly attend workshops and seminars for piano teachers.

I joined The Academy of Music & Sound in Gateshead when it started up from the course I was already on at Gateshead College. Thinking back to my time at the Academy of Music & Sound it helped meunderstand a lot about performing - Live Performance Workshops and other such classes may seem like a bit of fun but once you get to a higher level of study the professionalism and experience begins to show. During her postgraduate studies at the RSAMD, Sarah led the Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra, the Opera Orchestra and the Academy Strings. She also led Opera West and was the Early MusicOrchestra Leader at the 24th Annual International Workshops held in Glasgow in 1995. As a soloist, she played the Concerto in A Major No. 5 by Mozart with the RSAMD Chamber Orchestra.
