About the Business

Kent Music is a music education charity committed to providing music opportunities to individuals, schools and groups across Kent, through individual lessons; whole class instrumental teaching; local and county-wide ensembles and choirs; teacher training; and through creating and supporting special music projects and events. Kent Music is also the lead partner for the Music Education Hub for Kent. Kent Music is a registered music education charity and a company limited by guarantee. (Charity Number: 1110639).

Through our network of specialist instrumental and vocal teachers we provide individual and group lessons. We also provide many services directly to schools.

Hiring a musical instrument as part of your tuition package is a very cost effective way of learning to play. We are also happy to rent instruments if you are not having your music lessons with us.

Through our network of Music Centres around the County we run 67 music groups which meet during term timesas out of school activities.

Music Lessons

Music Lessons

Learning to sing or to play a musical instrument provides enormous benefits for young people in terms of their intellectual, social and emotional development.

Lessons at your school, at home or at a Music Centre:

Lessons are offered individually or in groups of up to 6 and are delivered by professional musicians. We offer a wide range of instruments which is subject to the availability of teachers in your area.

Individual lessons can be tailored to the student’s needs while group lessons provide a fun and sociable way of learning a musical instrument. Lessons can work towards music examinations or simply focus on the enjoyment and accomplishment of learning to sing or to play a musical instrument. We would advise that beginners opt for a 20-30 minute lesson, increasing the lesson duration as they progress.

In September 2015 we lowered the cost of individual tuition for singing and for orchestral instruments. With funding from Arts Council England, we are investing in teaching so that in the longer term we see more young people playing in groups and ensembles. Over recent years we have seen a decline in the number of children learning instruments that can feed into our ensembles, particularly orchestral instruments.
