About the Business

James has been playing the piano for over twenty five years now. He started at primary school in Wokingham where he began following the associated board grades until he had achieved his grade eight as a teenager. He was a music scholar at Reading Bluecoat in Sonning until the age of sixteen. He has a grade 8 piano, a grade 8 saxophone, a grade 8 music theory, a music A level, and most importantly plenty of experience teaching! He also has no lack of insight into how the music industry works having played in various bands in London.

He has been involved with various musical pursuits over the years, which led to him teaching part-time for a number of years in Earls Court. Having enjoyed the teaching, he decided London was not for him and moved back to Reading for a much more laid back experience! The performance aspect of music did not feel right for him, and so he decided to focus more upon helping others develop their musical potential.

James is 100% CRB checked, which is important in this day and age, especially when working with children.

Piano Tuition

James teaches modern music tuition. Although classical can be accommodated, he is very interested to hear about each individuals music tastes and musical aspirations. This is a very important aspect of fulfilling ones potential. Do not feel as though a certain genre or mood is 'off limits'; the pupil must work with him to make sure they are developing in a way they are happy with.

We can either take the usual associated board route, by going through the grades, or we can spend the time playing and developing the more modern, pop side of things that many are looking to learn nowadays. Most students seem to enjoy a bit of both.

Scales are a very useful way of improving technique, and must be practiced regularly if certain skills are desired, but the most part of the lesson will involve the learning of actual songs which are (most importantly) enjoyed by the pupil. To really ensure 'feeling' is part of the learning process can make a huge difference, and will keep you interested for far longer than if it were not!
