About the Business

I studied voice at the Royal College of Music (95-97) in London as a postgraduate where I received my performance diploma and studied teaching of voice.

When I came top in the 'Art of Teaching' class, I was given my first teaching post by the Professor training the course and I teach pretty much full time now, doing singing jobs for fun and profit. I gained my BA degree in Music from Reading University (89-92) where I subsequently taught voice for 8 years (98-06).

I gained a distinction (80) for my MMus Short Recital, won the Concerto Prize and was awarded the Catherine Mills Bursary Award, 2013.

I have recently been granted full funding and fees to continue my studies in Mindfulness for Singers to PhD level at the University of Leeds and an article in the BJME is also forthcoming. Watch this space!

Singing Lessons

Singing Lessons

Lessons are on a one-to-one basis and are made up of technical work, repertoire (songs) and performance.

STYLES

I teach Classical music (opera, operetta, song), Music Theatre, Jazz and Light Pop styles. Languages taught are French, German, Italian, Russian and Latin.

I am a firm believer in learning good vocal technique to unleash the creativity inside each and every unique singer and being focused and aware in the 'present moment' to gain the most from your learning and performing experience. I use lots of different teaching styles personally tailored to each students needs ...and wants!

However, I don’t tend to teach singing to children under the age of 12 (except in exceptional circumstances) because a well developed cognitive and physical awareness is needed to get the most from lessons.

I also work on performance skills and understanding the text, style and meaning in songs based within their performance context.
