Lessons are given by qualified teacher and professional musician Matthew Jones.

Matthew started playing the trumpet at the age of nine, with guitar and piano at age thirteen. He gained a music degree from Leeds University, and a post graduate diploma in performance from Leeds College of Music. Matthew gained his PGCE from the Institute of Education in 2003.

After leaving music college Matthew worked for several years as lead trumpet for P&O Cruises and Holland America Line, with whom he did two world cruises and many grand voyages. Upon returning to dry land he played lead trumpet for several years in the Nick Ross Orchestra.

Although classically trained as a trumpet player Matthew has always been an improvising jazz musician and is comfortable teaching across many styles of music from classical through rock and blues to jazz.

Matthew has many years experience of live and studio playing and an extensive list of theatre and show performances from which he takes a wealth of experience for teaching. He has played trumpet, guitar, bass, and keyboards in many professional settings from small-group jazz and big-band lead through orchestral to soul, rock and pop.

Since qualifying as a teacher Matthew has over 11 years experience teaching music in the classroom. Over 7 of these have been as a head of department teaching from primary years through to A-Levels. He finds this a particular advantage when helping students prepare for their GCSE and A-Level performances where a thorough knowledge of the specifications and assessment criteria is fundamental.
